Mary Immaculate Conception Mission is a private retreat consecrated to Mary - the Immaculate Conception as confirmed to St. Bernadette at Lourdes, France by Mary herself.
Located high atop the San Gabriel Mountains in Glendora, the Mission - historic landmark, was the original Singer Estate also known as The Kregmont. The first structure was built before the end of the 1800s by Charles Kregelo.
The house was later completely damaged by fire, but a wealthy resident, John Rambeaux, purchased the property and built the mission style mansion patterned after Mission San Miguel in Central California. It was sold to A.K. Bourne, a heir to the Singer Sewing machine fortune. Because of his immense financial resources, the mission style estate underwent major upgrading. In order to decorate the large ballroom, he commissioned two European artists to paint its ceilings and beams who took two years to finish it.
The 5.7 acre estate overlooking the San Gabriel Valley features two apartments for their maids and groundskeepers, two fountains, a tennis court, heated pool, and six stall carport that used to house a Rolls Royce and two Duesenbergs.
The property has been owned and occupied for 22 years until December 2006 by Dr. Henri Becker, M.D., his wife Susan and their 3 children--all of whom were born and raised at the estate. The current owners have decided to use it as a private retreat, extended by invitation only to religious groups.
